Just after New Year, I completed the story for The Mourning Son: Journey to Dis (Book 2 in the Absolution of the Morning Star series). It is now available for pre-order on Amazon! If you’ve been following along with my process of writing the sequel to Dawn of the Lightbearer, you will notice that I changed the title a bit. It was initially the Son of the Mourning, but I think the rearrange works better, both for meaning and esthetics. Now, it is time for the editing!
I set for myself perhaps an overambitious goal of a February 4th release date. I promised this book would be available just after the holidays, and I want to keep that promise if I can. That’s giving me just about a month to edit. I know it’s very tight, but having the deadline gives me a good push for the part of the process I like the least. Worse comes to worst, I can delay the release date back up to a month without penalty, but here’s hoping that doesn’t need to happen (Amazon only allows you to do this once). I’m already well into my second pass (which is generally a read-out-loud pass) for story and content. After that is complete, I may do a third, and then it is time for the close edit. I have a lovely long weekend this week, so I should make it. So far, I am very pleased with how it came out, and I hope you will be too!
Then, the fun of getting it in front of readers begins. Writing and promoting a sequel is an entirely new adventure for me. So I’m sure I will make plenty of mistakes. If anyone has some pointers, don’t be shy! Leave a comment.
Below is the blurb. In a few weeks, I will release some sample chapters. You can follow my process and see periodic updates here. I hope you enjoy!
Cheers!
Erikson Gray awakes alone and without memory in a strange land. The surf rumbles, the gulls call, and a voice beckons him. Sticking out from the sand, Erik discovers a sword.
“Lightbearer,” he whispers.
Erik knows they have a shared history as he feels the weight in his hand. Is this weapon, with its seductive tone, a friend or a foe? As Erik turns the sword in the light, all he knows is that it is a companion when he needs one most, for before him, is the vast Llwyn Sanctaidd, or Sacred Grove. Stretching millions of acres, it is full of mysteries, magic, and danger, but it also holds answers, and this Erik craves more than anything.
Erikson Gray is lost, his journey of discovery stunted, but the possibilities of the grove beckon him forward. Deep in this wilderness, buried beneath the earth, the lost city of Dis awaits to tell Erik its story. Will it give him hope or crush his soul? Find out!
