Noonday in the North at 100k!

Noonday in the North, book three in my Absolution of the Morning Star series, has finally joined the 100k word club! I am now at 100,080 words and two-thirds done with the first draft. I started on February 17th, so I have been at it for about six months. It may seem like a big book, and it is, but 150k is about average for a fantasy- for comparison, The Game of Thrones is 298K. My entire series total currently stands at 382,680 words so it is not the behemoth of just one of Martin’s books. Still, it’s a lot of words and I’m proud of the scope. By the time the story is complete (the plan is six books), it should be around 900,000 to 1,000,000. Now, that will be a landmark to celebrate!

I don’t want to repeat what I said here and here, but this point is always a milestone for me. As I suspected, the story has grown a life of its own, and I am merely its shepherd, but I am super excited about where it all ended up and look forward to where it will ultimately take me. It has and continues to be an absolute gem to write. I probably have about three solid months of work left on this one, so it should be out in the late fall or early winter. I hope to have the entire series complete by 2024.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the series, you can find it here. If you’ve already started the journey, don’t forget to leave an Amazon review or send me feedback here. I would love to hear from you.

Cheers!

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.
