Prehistory
32 BLE – War between humans and Nephilim ends in tentative truce. Little is known of this period.
25 BLE – Devlian of the Forest People receives the mighty sword, Ljós Leggja, from the Nephilim sorcerer Aspar.
20 BLE – Devlian bestows Ljós Leggja onto his five-year-old son Sathanas before succumbing to poison.
Rule of Sathanas, the First Uniter
Year 1 of the Common Lucardian Era (CLE) – The beginning of a new age: Sathanas unites the human kingdoms under a single crown. Calls the Kingdom Lucardia.
20 – Sathanas begins his expansion and goes to war with the Jötunn race.
25 – Sathanas conquers and enslaves the Jötunn.
115 – After beginning an expansive building campaign, Sathanas loses the support of the Forest People’s high council after he begins to cut down the Sacred Grove. The Forest People establish their own independent government and swear to protect their sacred homeland.
116 – Sathanas and Forest People go to war. Sathanas begins a campaign of extermination of the Forest People. Many of his own family members fall victim. The Forest People are pushed deep into the Sacred Grove, where they begin a successful guerrilla campaign that eventually halts further encroachment.
120 – Lucardia roughly reaches its current borders.
122 – Sathanas dies.
Rule of Bartholomew
122 – On his deathbed, Sathanas gives Ljós Leggja to his nephew Bartholomew, surpassing his own sons, thereby naming him king of Lucardia. Sathanas dies at the fantastic age of 147. Receives posthumous title of Sathanas the Wrathful for his brutal near extermination of the Forest People.
123 – King Bartholomew’s journey to the borders to return Ljós Leggja to Aspar.
133 – King Bartholomew disappears, and Ljós Leggja is lost.
The Five Kingdoms Period
130-139 – With King Bartholomew absent, Lucardia fractures in civil war between the five heirs of Sathanas.
134 – Dirk Battenborne returns; he is the only survivor of Bartholomew’s expedition.
135 – King of Westerly bestows Eldenspire and its surrounding lands onto Dirk and his descendants in thanks for his service to the realm.
139 – Lucardia solidifies into five independent kingdoms (Emergrave, Westerly, Luenwell, Northlands, and Okobel).
139 – 642- The dark times. Periods of war between the five kingdoms stunt technological and cultural progress.
580 – Sereth Battenborne appears before Westerly’s court, signaling a reappearance of the Battenborne family in the kingdom’s politics. He is the first Battenborne to do so after hundreds of years.
642 – Second War of the Five Kingdoms begins.
644 – Sereth Battenborne defeats the Emergrave Kingdom at the Battle of Watcher’s Bend, saving Westerly.
645 – Sereth Battenborne named Grand Duke of the Step.
650 – Great mage purge.
658 – Sereth Battenborne is executed by his son Varion for witchcraft.
660 – Rhime Battenborne is born.
672 – Vaeric of House Drageoir crowned king after the short reign of his elder brother.
680 – Varion Battenborne is murdered.
680 – Long drought begins, and Eldenspire is greatly affected.
690 – Rhime of the Spire Series begins.
691 – Duke Rhime usurps King Vaeric of House Drageoir and becomes king of Westerly.
The Second Unification
700 – Brief unification of Lucardia under Rime of the Spire, a member of the powerful Battenborne Family. The Five Kingdoms and the ancestors of Sathanas are eliminated. The capital moved to the Southern coast. Lucardia forged into an Empire.
The Twelve Kingdoms Period
702 – Lucardia fractures into twelve kingdoms after the assassination of King Rimes of the Spire by his brother (Zulikaarme, Garrish, Battenborne, Skelmour, Cadogan, Rhys, Berolt, Gabrien, Mortcombe, Newmont, Anworth, and Musgrave. Northland’s Circle of Eight pledges fealty to House Battenborne.
815 – Peace treaty signed between twelve kingdoms. The Council of Twelve is established to maintain peace.
925 – Vesper of House Zulikaarme born.
932 – Colony that would become Grafton Notch established.
934 – Vesper crowned king under regency.
948 – South Dardark incorporated into House Garish after an alliance treaty was signed with Bleakwharf. Conflict begins between House Garish and House Zulikaarme over the rights of this land.
948 – Vesper weds Constance of Anworth, uniting the two kingdoms.
949 – Twelve months of winter and the great famine.
950 – Earldom of Grafton Notch formally established by Amicus Grafton through sabotage and assassination of competitors.
949 – Prince Ivar is born.
950 – Prince Koen is born.
951 – Vesper begins quest to unite all Lucardia under one banner, begins open conflict with House Garish over control of South Dardark.
952 – Port that would become Helmsdock established by Vesper as a base of operations against House Garish in South Dardark.
952 – Prince Sylvanus is born.
955 – House of Garish falls.
958 – Prince Eadred is born, and Queen Constance dies.
963 – City of Brae, ancestral seat of House Zulikaarme, is burned to the ground by the Battenborne Kingdom.
The Third Unification–Vesper the Uniter
971 – Vesper Zulikaarme unites the twelve kingdoms after destroying the powerful Battenborne Dynasty, the last of the old kingdoms, and establishes a new Empire with its capital at Highwater.
971 – The Lucardian Empire’s administration is split between four regional princedoms. Full governance is bestowed on Vesper’s sons.
981 – Prince Sylvanus immediately begins to build a strong army.
981 – Prince Koen disappears.
981 – Koen: Quills from the Raven’s Nest begins.
984 – Prince Koen reappears.
984 – Ships start to disappear around the Phlegyas Strait.
The War of the Four Realms (civil war)
985 – Prince Sylvanus rebels, war of the Four Realms begins.
985 – Great battle at Wildwick. Prince Sylvanus’s army is defeated and begins a retreat to Runemaul.
985 – Prince Koen and his Circle of Eight allies join the war on the side of Sylvanus. War turns in the brothers’ favor.
984 – Jezelle is born.
985 – Wendell arrives in Helmsdock.
985 – Erikson Gray is born.
987 – Helmsdock is formally established as a city.
988 – Prince Koen surrenders.
988 – Rachel of Thorne dies.
988 – Prince Sylvanus surrenders, and the war of the Four Realms ends.
Reconstruction Period
988 – Wendell moves his enterprise to Grafton Notch.
989 – Prince Koen executed, and Prince Sylvanus imprisoned at Runemaul.
