Work continues

I’m about a forth of the way through Vril and things are running smoothly. It is fun to read the book, because honestly, there is a lot I forgot. I’m also working through my marketing plan for Island of Stone and trying to get it out to as many people as possible. It is currently offered for free until April 8th. I’m hoping that with barriers removed, some people will read and review it. Its an exciting story!

Today, after this post, I will work on Vril a bit more and then I need to tackle another beast- home ownership. I may have mentioned that about ten years ago we bought a house and that the remodel of the house took up a lot of my writing time over the past years. Well, the saga continues as any homeowner will know. We lost some front step bricks this winter and of course the insurance company just happened to make their rounds before I could fix them. Nothing like masonry on a cold spring day.

The house is beautiful, but was built in 1950 and beginning to show its age. We knew it was going to be work, and living in the Boston area, buying a brand new home would have been much more expensive then fixing this one. Since we bought it we have replaced the electrical, the roof, and the boiler. I’ve completely remodeled the kitchen (gutted it down to studs and rebuilt), updated all three baths (replacing sinks, toilets, refinished an antique tub and redid a shower- I hate plumbing), built a 60 foot long retaining wall from scratch by myself (had big muscles that year), painted every room in the house, painted a mural that surrounds our whole dining room, and completed a number of landscaping projects. To top is off, this winter we lost a one-hundred year old maple in our backyard that caused some damage. Needless to say, it has kept me busy. In a later post, I will go over in more detail and provide pictures for those who are interested. In any event, I have about 15 bricks to replace and I’m running out of mortar during a pandemic. I hope I have enough! Wish me luck.

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.
