Island of Stone is moving. As of this post, 48 people have acquired my book in three days! That is so exciting, and I can’t thank people enough for supporting my fledgling writing career. I think the story is a good one, with plenty of mystery, twists, and action. I hope you enjoy.
I know now the book may not be perfect and probably never will be. I, of course, did my best to make it as good as I could, but as the writer, I am just too close to the work. It is not like I am a novice. I actually read and review fellowship application materials for a living and do my fair share of copyediting. I went through the book many times and thought it was ready. But my standards and my eyes are not as good as they should be.
A close friend reached out yesterday. I’ve known her all my life, and she has always been a strong supporter of all my endeavors. She was the first to buy my book and the first to finish reading it. She did so in just a few days. She loved the story, but she did find a few small errors and minor things that could be improved. She is a retired English teacher, and her eyes are better than most, but the realization that the book has errors bites deep, especially when it is already out there, gaining readers. Luckily, those who have downloaded the book got it for free, and the errors should not affect the actual story. So the damage is not great. If anything, they can get a taste of what a book may look like being a bit green, and how much effort actually goes into creating a novel.
Not to fear! This friend has agreed to go through and edit the copy. I trust her expertise greatly, and damn myself for not thinking of her services earlier. Once finished, Amazon makes it incredibly easy to update what is available. The updated version will be available soon, and I can rest peacefully and continue working on new stories for you to enjoy!
The story is still a good one, and I have no doubt that people will enjoy it, at least that is what I keep telling myself 🙂
