As mentioned in my last post, a good friend provided me with some great feedback. She was the first to read (and finish) my book. When she reached out to let me know that she found some errors with an offer to help, I thought the product I put out into the world was in real trouble. This turned out not to be the case. Phew! With over 60 copies already downloaded, I was extremely nervous.
The corrections turned out to be minor, averaging about one small mistake per chapter with many chapters not having issues. I had missed things like using ‘there’ instead of ‘they’re’ or typos like ‘wonder’ instead of ‘wander’. Clarity was not an issue and there were no holes in the story- the things that could really sink a book.
This is not in any way to discount the Herculean effort of going through my entire book (after already reading it once) and making these corrections in such a short time! I can’t thank this person enough and will always appreciated the help. I’ve made all the corrections and have republished (will be available tomorrow). It is important to have a product that is as close to perfection as possible. It will never be perfect and there is always room to learn.
Reading back through my older books, I can see the growth that is not always apparent when writing. Although it makes the editing process a bit daunting, it is refreshing to see that I continue to improve over time and that is what is most important.
