Update- Editing and yard work

Hi all, I just wanted to provide a quick update. I know I haven’t posted a blog in a while, but rest assured, the saga of my in-laws’ first adventure to the US will continue soon!

Recently, I’ve been pretty busy editing the Dawn of the Lightbearer, and with the nice weather, doing a bit of much-needed yard work. Also, as this is a busy time for me at work on top, I’ve had to take a slight pause from the blog posts. This would be a great time to check out some of my other posts you may have missed. Being on part 32 of the My Life in China series, there should still be some tasty nuggets to digest for many of you, not to mention a multitude of other snapshots of my life’s journey. Check them out here!

Dawn of the Lightbearer is still coming along nicely. I’m just finishing my third pass and will likely do one or two more. I’ve modified some of the ending to go down a road I feared traveling with some of my key characters (but a way that I had to go). I also tightened the story a bit more and of course made edits for flow and fixed typos. A few days ago, I even felt confident enough with the tale to write the synopsis and put together a few ads to get the ball rolling. I planned to have this book out by July 4th, but at this rate, it should be out much sooner, which is very exciting.

I’m ecstatic about this story, but even more excited of where it will ultimately go. Part two is already swirling about and as soon as this one is up on Amazon, I will dive into the second part. Here’s to hoping it will write itself in three months just like the Dawn of the Lightbearer did! Of course, I know the closer you get to the end of a series the harder it is to write, but with this collection looking like it will be about 5 books, I should be ok for the second. It will be a busy summer. A sample chapter can be found here.

Cheers!

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.

  1. Now this is how Karma works! I just posted a blog, and your pic popped up. So I followed the pic and here I am! And following! This looks like a great blog and I look forward to going “back in time” with your posts — and I don’t need a crystal ball to do it!
