The adventure continues!

The Dawn of the Lightbearer is out there and doing its thing. As many of you know, writing the story and publishing it are the easy parts. Now, it is time for the promotion and getting it to readers—a far more difficult nut to crack. It will be slow going for a time as initial readers work through the text and hopefully start leaving reviews. But I won’t bore you with all that jazz. I will only say that you should check it out and give it a chance if you haven’t done so already. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The Dawn of the Lightbearer’s story is far from over. It is just the beginning of what will probably be a five-book epic (maybe more) in the Absolution of the Morning Star Series. Never one to sit idle, the day after I published Dawn of the Lightbearer, I began getting the second book on the page. Last night, I reached 10,000 words on my journey towards its sequel, Son of the Mourning, which takes place immediately following the first book. I’m on chapter five, so it is still very much in its infancy, but it is starting to develop nicely. I’m getting a feel for my new characters and getting reacquainted with those remaining from the first book. Dawn of the Lightbearer had some dark undertones, but Erikson Gray was still young and naive, and parts of the story were lighthearted. Son of the Mourning is already a darker book, which is vital for my story arc. We will meet Emperor Vesper and his minions, interact with Prince Eadred the Strange, take a deeper dive into the realms of the Forest People, and learn some more about Lucardia’s past. There will be adventure, horror, and plenty of twists and turns.

Well, enough chit-chat and more writing! Erik has just met a new and eccentric friend, a storm rages, and a beast lurks in forests as old as time itself. It’s an exciting time.

Cheers!

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.
