I just realized today is the first anniversary of the publication of Dawn of the Lightbearer, book one of the Absolution of the Morning Star series (July 2, 2021)! I wasn’t planning on writing a blog post, but I couldn’t let this momentous occasion pass without saying something. To date, it is my best-selling book and one that is dear to my heart, being the first step in a series that has occupied my mind and time since.
Dawn of the Lightbearer was the fastest book I’ve ever written- taking only two and a half months from the first word to the end. The novel is 486 pages, a testament to my eagerness to get the story out to the world, and it flowed virtually complete from mind to page. Writing 2,000 words or more a day now seems crazy as I struggle to reach my daily goal of 1,000, but boy has the tale blossomed. Book two, The Mourning Son, was released in February, and book three, Noonday in the North, is slated for later this year (probably in the late fall).
Dawn of the Lightbearer was a defining moment for me. With it being my first fantasy work, it is the story that helped me discover my passion. I have written in historical fiction, sci-fi, horror, and thrillers, but I couldn’t quite find my voice. That all changed with Dawn of the Lightbearer. It is a great mix of my love for the medieval period, my fascination with the paranormal and the arcane, and my soul searching in the religious realm. It is a fast-paced yet intricate tale that creeps into the darker side of the genre where things are the most interesting. Fantastic creatures and magic exist, but Dawn of the Lightbearer is not Harry Potter. It is visceral, and the mysteries are grounded in the actual beliefs of the late medieval period.
The Absolution of the Morning Star series will be six books and an epic yarn. Last night I wrote its 153rd character- a Caspian priest that my protagonist, Erikson Gray, meets while trying to evade the watch in the port city of Newpost. It marks a moment where Erikson begins to comprehend Lucardia’s largest religion’s corruption, and if you have read The Mourning Son, then you know that is saying a lot.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out Dawn of the Lightbearer, what are you waiting for? Join me on this journey! If you’ve already experienced the thrill of my world, don’t worry, the next stop in the adventure is coming out soon!
Cheers.

It’s magical when a novel takes shape like that. Happy Birthday to the Lightbearer!

Thanks! Yes, it was exhilarating. Often it comes in spurts- a chapter here, a few there, but rarely a whole book!

Anniversary blessings to Dawn of the Lightbearer. I’m going to add it to my summer reading list, though I’m pretty stacked up with books written by my podcast guests. It’s an embarrassment of riches. I appreciate that you read and like my blog every week. I’m making more time, even if it’s just a little bit every day, to connect with more creative people like you. You reminded me that my first novel, The Space Between Time came out June 2, 2017, the same day that Wonder Woman was released. Maybe it’s time to do some more marketing and get the word out about it. Congratulations on the success of your latest book series. Lucinda

I will make the time. It’s just that my TBR is pretty long. 😄

Congratulations! Your description of the writing that led to this first book is inspiring. And how wonderful to have found your voice and be able to continue in the direction that suits you so well.

Thanks! After writing a 500-page historical fiction, writing fantasy was very liberating. I guess if you want to write a book quickly, you have to be stuck on the slow train of research for several years 😉
