Time for another quick writing update. The first draft of Noonday in the North, book three of the Absolution of the Morning Star series, is getting very close to being finished. I’m currently at 130,310 words and have about three to four chapters left to write. I hope to finish this part of the story at around the 150,000-word mark or roughly 500 pages (comparable to book 1, Dawn of the Lightbearer, and book 2, The Mourning Son). I’m currently putting down around 6k words a week, so hopefully, I will finish the story by the end of September. Then, I can start my favorite part of the writing process- the first read-through! I aim to have this book out by the end of the year. At this rate, as long as I stay motivated, it seems like that will happen!
Stumbling to the finish line comes at a good time. I start my new job on Monday (more on that here), and I imagine that will take up much of my energy and a good chunk of my free time for a while. I’ve worked from home at least four days a week for years, but my new role requires me to be on campus three days a week. Getting those creative juices flowing and putting down a thousand words a day will be challenging during this transition, especially with six hours of commuting time added to my week (on a rapidly deteriorating MBTA). After these long days in a new work environment, coming home and relaxing will be tempting. Still, I hope to push hard with my writing goals for one more month, and then I can switch modes to the read-throughs and editing, which will be more conducive to my energy level as I learn my new job.
It’s an exciting and nerve-wracking time. As I get this book together and transition into my new role, my blogging may decrease, but I will be sure to keep you all posted as things develop. Wish me luck!
Cheers!
