Happy Birthday Dawn of the Lightbearer!

This is a quick post, but I realized the date and decided I should document the moment. Dawn of the Lightbearer, book one of my Absolution of the Morning Star series, is officially three years old (published on July 2, 2021)! Gosh, I can’t believe it’s been that long. It feels like that intrepid boy, Erikson Gray, popped into the world just yesterday.

Dawn of the Lightbearer has a special place in my heart for multiple reasons. From the first word to pressing publish, it was completed in five months during the darkest times of the pandemic, making it the fastest book I’ve ever written. My current WIP, The Novice of Thanatos, might take the title (depending on how editing goes), but it is a much shorter book. Dawn of the Lightbearer was my first new work after a ten-year writing hiatus. Although I published the Island of Stone and the Slaying of the Bull before Dawn of the Lightbearer, they were reworks of books I had written in my twenties.

Dawn of the Lightbearer appeared largely as a single stream of conscience in chunks of 2,000 words at a time- a pace that I have been unable to recreate for any sustainable period. The book was my first voyage into fantasy, where I found my writing passion and birthed a world now home to four other books (The Mourning Son, Noonday in the North, Koen, and The Novice of Thanatos), with multiple others in the works. Dawn of the Lightbearer is also my best-selling novel by far and has managed to be well-received by some magical feat. I am halfway through the six-book Absolution of the Morning Star series and have returned to work on Destiny of the Daystar (book 4), which I hope to have out in early 2025.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Dawn of the Lightbearer, grab a copy today. It is a speedy tale of action and adventure that blossoms into a dark world of intrigue and plots- and there is lots more to come. You won’t be disappointed.

Cheers!

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.
