Doldroms

Just a quick update this weekend. I’ve finished editing Duke Rhime of the Spire and started querying. I am taking a slow and systematic approach there. There is no particular rush. It is a good book with good market appeal. The Novice of Thanatos is available for preorder and will be released on March 7th. Destiny of the Daystar, book 4 of my Absolution of the Morning Star series, was released on January 7th and awaits those who’ve read the other books. Koen is still with the editor at Grendel Press- no news there.

I am in a holding pattern on many fronts- the doldrums, as it were. Sales for February have been absolutely dismal- almost non-existent. From what I am seeing from the writing community, I’m not alone. There is the normal slump after the holidays, the world’s general state, inflation pains, and the boycotting of Amazon. This seems accurate because my rankings and keyword placement haven’t changed much- meaning everyone is hurting. I’m also feeling the stress, too. I haven’t had the drive to write anything new. Work has been hell, and the price of everything keeps going up. Hiring freezes means we’re trapped and just hopeful to have jobs when so many others are losing them. Budget cuts are imminent. Every day there is new craziness.

It’s time to take a walk and get some fresh air. At least it is sunny and above freezing.

Cheers!

Scott Austin Tirrell loves dark speculative fiction, conjuring isolated worlds where ancient mysteries, the raw power of nature, and the paranormal entwine. His work is steeped in the arcane, drawing from the forgotten corners of history and the unsettling grasp of the supernatural. With a style shaped by Clive Barker, Frank Herbert, and Joe Abercrombie, he crafts narratives that pull ordinary, flawed souls into the extraordinary, where reality frays, shadows lengthen, and the unknown whispers from the void. He has self-published eight books, with Koen set to come out in 2025 under Grendel Press. Residing in Boston with his wife, he draws inspiration from the region’s haunted past and spectral folklore. Scott invites readers to step beyond the veil and into his worlds, where every tale descends into the deeper, darker truths of the human condition.

  1. Fresh air always helps me too. Sunny here also, and above freezing. Always nice. Congrats on finishing the edits. I never really enjoy that part. Good luck to you with sales!
